Knowing that I am part of a plan. Having seen the vision, yet being flexible as I walk the journey is hard. It’s much easier for me to create the path in my mind and try to stick to it. However, to be flexible allows me the joy of seeing the beauty of the things God has in store for me along the way. Things I never could have imagined! So thankful for these gifts he is giving as I learn to yield to his spirit and learn to be flexible.Be flexible. That’s good stuff.
Spring has sprung! There are flowers everywhere and the beauty of spring is abundant! The various shades of green, the vibrant colors of daffodils, tulips, azaleas, wisteria…it’s all so enchanting.
Tis the season for planting! Everyone I know is planting a garden of some sort. Be it a vegetable garden or a flower garden – seeds are in the ground and small plants are starting to grow. It’s so interesting to me that we all feel this need to participate in spring in this way. In this season
This past fall, Sarah and I had the joy and privilege of visiting Kathy and Beaver Brooks in Jubilee, Haiti. We were able to meet the artisans that craft many of the goods that we sell here at 107 Market Street. To look them in the eye and tell them that we plan to work hard on their behalf was humbling at best. Here are some exciting ways that skilled training mixed with natural talent and sustainable income are affecting these people and their families:Emanise was able to put in a
Since I’ve been working with 107, I don’t travel as much as I used to. It’s been about 4 months since I’ve flown someplace and since then, a lot has changed! I’ve dropped down in airline priority status, lost TSA Pre-Check status, expired my Sky Club membership…my first day back traveling this week was a sad one! Waiting in all the lines, not boarding the plane first, having a slim chance at upgrade... And even onboard, they are serving Starbucks – in paper cups now (I believe I remember
Here at 107, we are all about families. It is our heart to keep families together! We support sustaining jobs long term so families can stay together and be all they were meant to be. We believe in the value of helping one another. We want to support our communities. So, we have developed some unique fundraising collections whereby in addition to supporting the families of the artisans who make these amazing goods, you are supporting your own communities as well. It doesn’t get much
The Digital Divide. This is a term I heard recently and was struck by the accuracy of this term. It refers to the socioeconomic and geographic gap between those who have ready access to computers and technology and those who do not. I believe it could also include the vast gap between the younger generations to whom technology and the internet is second nature and older generations to whom it is like foreign policy.
I’m thankful that even though I’m in the upper ceiling, I find myself on the
For many of us, including myself, who are Irish, we like to use it as an excuse to draw attention to ourselves. It’s a fun day to wear green a say silly things like “kiss me, I’m Irish” or drink green beer. (Seriously, though, I’ve never drank green beer, I think that coloring your beer is gross…) But, I took it upon myself to do a little research and found some interesting things about old St Patrick. Yes, he was a real man. No, he was not a leprechaun. Yes, according to several sources,
So, last week I found my new favorite song. I have listened to it about 85 times since last Thursday. I heard a story about a man who asked Mother Theresa to pray for him to have clarity and she said no, she would pray for him to have trust instead. I realized how much I needed to hear that! I realized that I have been praying for clarity and revelation of God’s will for so long and really, all I want is for God’s will, so why not just trust? Wow! That is REVOLUTIONARY! So, my new
Passion:a strong and barely controllable emotion oran outburst of strong emotion.
As humans and individuals, we can be passionate about many different things.
I adore the passion of Andrea Young and her team of friends who started the Created for Care Retreat for adoptive and foster moms. It started in 2010 and has 900 participants twice a year. They are passionate about adoptive moms having rest, community, and fellowship with their Savior. There was clearly a need. While parenting
A little story I want to share...
Some of us set sail in big ships; I put to sea to do business in faraway ports. Out at sea I saw God in action, saw his breathtaking ways with the ocean: With a word he called up the wind – an ocean storm, towering waves! I shot high in the sky, then the bottom dropped out; my heart was stuck in my throat. I was spun like a top, I reeled like a drunk, I didn’t know which end was up. Then I called out to God in my desperate condition; he got me out in the
