Living in a coastal community has tons of perks as you can imagine. My favorite part about living on a small island here in south Georgia is crossing the causeway to reach our little piece of the world. I love driving over the ocean, watching the sun glisten on the waves, and smelling the saltwater in the air. It’s close to heaven for me.
But as I reach our island, I turn onto another marsh filled causeway towards the northern part of the island. Frequently, I find a large white heron along this road. Typically, he is gliding through the ditch. You read that right. The large white heron is gliding about a foot off the ground through a long ditch along the road. The ditch is covered with trees with little sunshine to be found. Why is he doing that?
Does he know there is an ocean on the other side of the marsh? Has he chosen to inhabit the ditch? Has he chosen to glide in a cramped ditch rather than soar through the ocean’s sky? How about you?
I ask myself this every time I see the white heron. Am I simply gliding in a ditch unaware of the unequivocal gift just around the corner? Or am I making choices that allow me to soar through the ocean air in the glory of the sunshine?
We do have a choice. Here at 107 Market Street, our hope and prayer is that we are helping make a way so that choices can be made to soar.
“but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
